In which I suck at blogging

I don’t think it comes as that great a surprise to anyone that follows this blog that it’s been in a quiet state for the past few months. I had the best intentions at the beginning of the year to balance the blog with the new job, but somehow at the end of the work day I’ve used up all my enthusiasm for things that require brainpower. I want ( Read more... )

I, too, am having trouble mustering up the time and energy to blog. It's just low on the priority list. One thing I've considered, which I can't do yet because right now I'm using the time to read my daily issue of Hellblazer, is to work on blog entries during my lunch break. I wouldn't necessarily have to post daily, but I could knock out a huge chunk of whatever I want to post at that time.

I would like to utilize my lunch better too. Hmm. Something for me to try. At the very least maybe I'll catch up on the blogs I follow..

Well...I do not take myself seriously. If a review takes more take more than 20 min it's not worth it. I try to write it at once, or at least within 24 hours. As you have seen my reviews are not always masterpieces, cos I write what I feel at the moment :)

I blog before work and when I get home while eating and looking at tv. I do the same thing at night while watching tv. So yes 99% of my reviews are written while watching something

I have a really hard time doing that. I think I get a little twitchy unless I've thought everything I want to say out and really try to write it up well. Part of it is that I just don't feel like I'm good at expressing myself verbally. I have trouble expressing my feelings about something because I just know how I feel but it takes me time to turn that into why I feel that way? So I think that just makes me feel blocked sometimes and worry more and take longer.

I think you do very well with 20 min. Also you are such a good multi-tasker!

Thanks! :)

And yes everyone is different. I am SO glad I can write the way I want to. Cos else I fear I would get burned out too :(

This is probably some of the most practical advice I've gotten about balance. I will think about the planning part. I think planning post topics: not hard for reviewing books, but planning what to say in the review is harder. I have ideas while doing other things and then don't get around to the actual review writing for a while and by then have forgotten...O_O I should probably WRITE THINGS DOWN. Also a big one here is distractions (TV, tumblr, social media in general). I think it can be used as an excuse when I'm feeling lazy, which is often when I am finally done with the day-job: "I'm doing something!" instead of focusing on thinking "I do have this hour free to do some actual work on the blog."

Oh I've been struggling this summer with family issues happening. I don't want to stop, and have gotten back to mostly blogging, but commenting has suffered greatly. It's rough to balance. I do try to balance with only setting a specific time slot aside for blogging when home. And there are days I miss that slot and don't get on at all. We are all still here with you, so take your time and don't stress. :)

That's okay. I fail at blogging too. I used blog regularly and now I'm lucky if I do it once a month. I'm trying to change that this year though. I have read TONS of books. It's probably easier to do I dunno audio blog / podcast reviews than typing it up or something. :p

It's so hard! I feel like I've forgotten how to review because I've fallen out of the habit.

Not to mention you know it's just easier reading books for the sake of entertainment and it's hard sometimes to get into more analytical reading.
