Hi hello, you think all the things I think! Promethia_Tenk and I were discussing how great it would be for Amy to be in the suit. And what a total WTF moment for everyone who thinks it's River or the Ganger Doctor or something. It would also be a kind of neat bookend to The Big Bang when we all thought the Doctor would be the one bursting out of the Pandorica.
I think a lot of this series is a comment on how the Doctor has the power to radicalize people. [Amy, Rory, Lorna, the whole human race...] he's still not recovered from the Time War, he's unconsciously molding people to be like him. Which ultimately seems to lead to another war in the future that Kovarian drops hints about.
Right, I don't think he's deliberately trying to shape people, it's just that some people go out of their way to try and impress him.
I heard like three shout-outs to Vampires the last few episodes, I just had to watch it again. There's a whole lot of stuff in there about the adventurous life, and of course Rory's great rant about his affect on people, who ultimately ends up fighting a monster (who is defeated by Amy's mirror.) I love Rory.
And yeah, the Pandorica resonance would be grand! There's so much repetition, it really feels like an ode to Eternal Return. Or fractals.
>>Right, I don't think he's deliberately trying to shape people
And that's the difference between the Doctor and and a war crazy dictator that Melody doesn't grasp at first. He's not out to make himself more powerful or to bend people to his will. He just keeps blundering into these terrible situations that he tries to fix and often makes worse. Along with the people he encounters on the way.
This series makes me think of Yayoi Kusama [my other favourite thing in the Universe]. A box of mirrors that reflects back on itself endlessly.
Just wanted to say I completely love this and plan to be back when I've had a chance to digest it some more. Brain is very much broken with the new ep right now, though . . .
Oh, and I had to snag this icon earlier today expressly because of this essay!
