Random comment spam all of a sudden?

Is anyone else having this problem. I keep getting random comments, from dummy journals on my most recent entry. But I've noticed that each random comment is "signed" ... each of these signatures corresponds with a youtube user. Is this some sort of bug or something because of that whole new PingBack thing? Because I have that disabled. Not ( Read more... )

Yeah that's happening with my journal, as well. Huh, at first I thought that this person had gotten my journal mixed up with someone else's. I didn't even considered pingbacks until you said something. I suppose I just dismissed it because the person was talking about Severus Snape and HP is my main fandom. How do you know that they derive from youtube?

I thought the same thing about it being someone who commented on my journal by accident, but then when I actually clicked on the users name and their journals were blank and all their profiles say they were created on the same day. Strange, most of mine were HP related as well. The YouTube thing is just a hunch. I searched the signature names in google and each of the names took me to different YouTube user sites. The one comment that was about a "Ministry of Magic" new CD went to a YouTube user that had a clip of "Ministry of Magic" (a HP band). I could be wrong about the YouTube and PingBack connection, but I didn't start having this problem until PingBack was introduced, so again a hunch there :)

If I had to guess, it's a bot. Like the one that had infested LJ last year that created dummy Russian accounts that randomly friended and unfriended people.

Huh ... that's a really interesting thought. If it keeps happening too much I may do that. Good solution :)
