So there may be spoilers for The Lost Highway, Mullholland Dr. and the book The King in yellow

So I used to think Mr. Lynch was an innovative filmmaker. I didn't know if I liked "The Lost Highway" or "Muholland Dr." all that much, but I thought they were really unique, original ideas.
However recently I read "The King in Yellow" by Robert Chambers and all that changed. There are so many similarities in their styles it is uncanny.
1. Both "writers" have freaky looking characters that seem to represent the devil or death. If you have seen the movies you know who I am talkin about, and suffice it to say that the book (which is a collection of short srories) has several stories that involve very similar type charaters.

2. All have seemy situations hidden under the surface of a normal life.

3. several of chambers' stories have reoccuring settings and characters leading it to seem to have anonlinear storyline much like the format of both the movies.

And it is so much more than that, the moods, the hint of supernatural in the above works, feeling of the endings all cry out for comparison.

So although I still will enjoy the uniqueness(sp?) of David lynch's films, his plots and storylines will have lost some of their originalness(word?) in my eyes.
