public transport dilemma

The good thing about commuting again by public transport is that train journeys have always been conducive to my thinking of fic ideas, and I now have about 1.5 hours every weekday for that ( Read more... )

I think you should continue writing! If your seat neighbour tried to read what you're writing, that would be pretty bad manners itself.

(Also, pretending the other passengers don't exist is just what you do on trains, isn't it? Well, in my city it is, anyway!)

Well, I did continue. And we definitely ignore other people on public transport where I live too (unless it's to share complaints about lateness/too few carriages etc), but I felt a little uneasy about it all the same!

I totally understand feeling a bit weird about it! But I'm still glad you continued. Because there's nothing more frustrating than having an idea, failing to write it down, and then never quite managing to chase it down again.

(And complaining definitely gets an exception here, too!)

You write. If they read, you hit them with something and scream "Pirate!! Thought Thief!!" at the top of your lungs.

Ooh, "thought thief", I like it! It is reassuring to know others would have taken the same action as me though - I did keep writing in the end because I didn't want to lose the train of thought. And I suppose it would have been their lookout if they were nosy and didn't like what they found!

I'd have to whack with an umbrella since I don't have a dictionary on the train. Should still be effective though :-)
