I'm with you on the finale. And I'm so tired of Moffat's inability to let people be dead, or to let the Doctor lose, or for there to be no good solution for something. I had my own issues with RTD's finales, but at least it was never that.
Argh, I know - I was so pleased at the end of 'Face the Raven' that Clara seemed to be getting a proper death that would stick. It was even a really good heroic send-off for her that managed to remind me of the reasons I had liked her before this season. And then they went, "haha, nope, fooled you again!" and it is getting so tiring and annoying.
It is the having his cake and eating it factor that is irritating me - he wants the big emotional gut punching moments, but when they are instantly taken back all the time, where is the power in them? It is all just a cheat! (Which I think is roughly how you feel about the 50th anniversary episode twist. My tolerance line was obviously drawn farther out than yours as I still don't mind that one so much, but the pattern is getting wearisome.)

Yes, exactly! It wouldn't be so annoying if it hadn't become such a pattern.

This is a really good way to put it. He wants the big dramatic impact, but with zero consequences, and he doesn't seem to realise that there is no impact as soon as you realise there will never be any consequences because Moffat will be Moffat.
(And yeah, for me the 50th anniversary was the final straw, but he just keeps doing it, and just, ugh.)
He seriously needs to break this pattern. I think what made it more disappointing for me though (now that I'm a week removed from it) was that Heaven Sent was so very good that I really thought the series was going to go out on a high for me. And instead the finale (after an okay start) did all the things I didn't want and bored me to boot!
Which colours the things that I might otherwise have enjoyed about it - I do like the idea of Ashildr and Clara roaming the universe in their own TARDIS, I just hate how the writers got them there.
