I have just returned from Berryville, AR.  I was listening to a talk show - not a "conservative" talk show, either.

Let me first say that I had heard rumors and tidbits of information concerning what I'm getting ready to talk about.  (keep in mind my "inside" information because of working in the law enforcement area)

Many of the victims of N.O. ( Read more... )

There are going to be La. people displaced all over the USA....I just hope that a lot of these people have family to go to for support and help. The families I visited with today when we fed the displaced have no one to help them. We did about 200 meals today, will prepare and distribute 400 tomorrow to local motels.....we are going to the motels to distribute the meals because a lot of these people are in the motels without transportation!! We are praying that FEMA will come through with vouchers soon for these people in the motels....some are running out of money for their room.....and we are stretched to come up with enough money to pay for their rooms.
Jan, I think it is great you left that note....these people need that type of response and welcome.

Your note wasn't "dorky" at all. It was very kind of you, and I would have done the same thing. It's so important that these people feel that others care about all they have lost, and what they are going through.
And it's wonderful that you're helping.
So many people think there is nothing that they can do.
Well that's crap. My younger daughter gave a dollar, ($1.00) contribution to help those in need, and i'm damn proud of her. We're not in the financial position to be of much help, but if everyone who can give just a dollar passed on the opportunity to do so,the whole world would be in worse shape. Everyone *can* help make a difference; and we all need to remember that.
As for the dangerous people out and about, thanks for the info. It's important to be aware of.

I might have done much the same thing...but I haven't seen any of them down here. :/

I remember how people were on 9/11....the good part, y'know? I can't help but want to return some of the goodwill being that it's someone else's city now...if that makes sense at all.

Who is that person who is using your LJ name to comment on your posts? O.o

Thanks :)

Peggy - I'm so glad that you are in a position to help out those in need. Is there anything that I can do to help?

Stina - That mysterious person is my bestest friend, Peggy. :) She doesn't have an LJ of her own, so she logs in as me in order to read everything that I've written. ;)

I too want to remember that there are more good people than bad in New Orleans... but I want anyone to know that if there is a group of people from N.O. in your area to be cautious because it's not only the "good" people being evacuated and relocated.

A lot of LA national guard were in IRAQ. Many police from NO turned in their badges because of job stress from being without rest, food, water for days, their own homes destroyed and loved ones in danger, and in the worst disaster situation possible trying to police an overwhelming number of starving, thristy, heat and terror ridden people in a desperate crisis situation ( ... )

Well, I'm definitely not going to totally defend the federal government's reaction time other than I believe that President Bush was waiting and expecting Lousiana'a own government to go into action first. When it became very clear that they were not doing _their_ job - he stepped in with FEMA. I think he was very angry that FEMA hadn't moved any faster than it should have ( ... )

9/11 had no advance warning, however before Katrina even landed there was a three day warning that it would be catagory five, later downgraded to catagory 4 and the levee is only supposed to maybe hold up under catagory THREE. Yes, FEMA was supposed to be ready BEFORE the hurricane even landed, which is why it was declared a federal emergency BEFORE the hurricane landed ( ... )

I am going to post something as a new entry in my LJ in reference to all of this.

I cannot in all good conscience totally defend President Bush's reaction/action 110%. However, I'm tired of hearing how it's ALL his fault. I have not heard any blame being placed on the mayor and governor. (except for what you said)
