Need tips from pierced people

Jul 06, 2006 08:17

Laurn got her belly button pierced yesterday and is getting conflicting advice on tips and tricks to make it go well. Any suggestions?

She had her nose done 2 1/2 years ago, it's different though right?

Tell her to be really careful not to bump it, and to keep it clean with salt water - I always boiled the water before adding the salt, as well. Tea tree oil is really good for clearing up or preventing infections, and lavender is good at promoting healing; both are cheap and easy to get from health food shops.

I actually have both tea tree oil and lavendar in the house. :)They told her to use dial soap in the shower to clean it, salt water as in saline you mean, right? Had to use that when my wound from surgery abcessed.

No bumping, got it. Bumping is bad. ;)

Thanks!

No bother :-) I'm not sure about saline, but probably! I just dissolved as much salt as the water could take, to be honest. If you've got saline already, it'd probably be better!

The bumping thing is really to prevent tearing - belly buttons are really prone to getting pulled about and torn.

Yikes! That sounds unpleasant. Lauryn's is looking pretty good. Tiny bit of redness and ooze. About what you'd expect I guess.

I've had mine for 1 1/2 years the lady said it would take 2 to heal. I cleaned it everyday for the first year and now I still get like a week where it will be sore. I've left the same bar in it since I got it and it's been fine.

Yikes! I have heard that it is a process. I know she's going to want to change it often, she does the one in her nose. That can also get a bit red if you fuss with it too much. She is very good about cleaning it and it loooks to be healing nicely. Thanks for the info!
