That is an awesome photo! Both the style and the angle suit you very well.
And yeah, I totally know what you mean by "short" being relative. I do not plan ever again to have hair as short as yours is now (even if I do always swear this time of year that I'm going in for a crewcut!), and I call mine "short" if it's above my bra strap. Once upon a time I had managed to get it aaaaaaalmost down to my knees...on one side; the other side was three inches shorter. Despite all the annoyances and inconveniences, though, I never broke down and cut it until after I caught it under my heel putting on my shoe.
At least you still look ok with longer hair, even if you do demonstrably look better with short. My poor college roomie looks absolutely hideous in long hair, and even her husband who adores long hair agrees that hers should never touch her collar again!
I've found the "right" length is different for everyone
I like having some swing and bounce to mine (for volume) and I need some length for that, but too long and it weighs down and looks flat.
As for the picture, it's good to know that 4 years of studying shot composition (among other things) wasn't wasted. :-) I still have no clue how I avoided red-eye, but I did. (It's gotta be a function of the camera...)
Short is definitely a relative term here, as I would consider your current hair mid- length. (Mine, right now, not coming past my ears, growing out from a buzzed 1".)
But it does look good on you, and that is more important than the semantics. Going into the summer, I hope you get those short bits into a pony tail for the sake of comfort...
Yes, and I think hair isn't long unless it can reasonably attempt to strangle you in your sleep. ;-)
It's no trouble if they don't stay back... they do that cute "frame the face" thing. (Think Sasha from Sluggy) It's mostly a need to get the hair off the back of my neck...
Ah, see, I have sweat/heat issues with the hair in front too. But as long as you're comfortable...
Right now, I have an undercut, so even though the top is too short to pull back, it's off my neck, though lately I need to use bandanas or hats to keep it off my face. Another half inch or so and I should be good though.
