Is it even possible to hate and love a film at the same time?

If it is possible, that is how I feel about Into the Wild.  As you may recall, I read the book in January and loved it.

I won't see this movie for the reasons you mentioned. I read Into the Wild about 9 years ago and absolutely fell in love with the story. I thought Chris seemed so compelling, but part of the allure was that we simply didn't know all of his motivations or parts of his journey. There's no way I'd watch the movie and take in all of the blatant and unnecessary fabrications.

By the Way, I'm almost through another Krakauer book, "Under the banner of Heaven." It's about Mormons. I think you'd like it.

As a matter of fact, I did like it. Very much. I haven't read all of it, but I made it about 3/4 of the way through. So far, so good.

As for Into the Wild...it is a good movie, but...maybe not for people who love the book. Or for people who understand the more esoteric themes of the book.

It's very much like Breakfast at Tiffany's, except that BAT kind of misses the spirit of the book entirely...even if it is a good movie.
