So, people studying abroad ought to keep a diary, right? They also ought to do stuff like letting parents know what's going on. They also may or may not need to get niggling little things off their chests, cullture shock kind of stuff, so they can forget about it.
And I happen to have this Live Journal sitting here doing nothing...
Fair warning to ( Read more... )

I think you're just used to it. Everyone here has really clear, bright skin, healthy hair, great figures and no make up. English people, as a massive and unfair generalisation, have greyish, pallid and dry skin, dull hair, weight issues (chubby/obese/skinny and always neurotic about it). I think it's a combination of the diet (olive oil etc) the sunshine, the tremendous muscular workouot of hill walking and door opening, and the general culture. Everyone seems at ease and non-neurotic.
Apart from the creepy Brazillian who hangs around on our doorstep.

went crazy for a bit? ill? 'better now' sounds good, but i shall at some point have to hear the full story. and yes, dandiness is gonna stick close to both of us.
PS- you knwo i keep moaning that everything in the world is on april 25th, and everyone ignores me? Damn great beautiful bridge in Lisbon, MAJOR tourist attraction, and they decided to call it "Bridge of the 25th of April". No seriously.

It sounds like a simply spiffing adventure. No adventure is complete without the potential development of brawn from door openeing (not to mention the chance to become an expert at unlocking locks that sound like Kryptonfactor/crystal maze challenges), some pining for home and multiple insect murders.

It's good that people are kind and I'm sure once you're more used to being there you'll find some ugly people. Try pubs, ugly people often congregate in those, though do try and avoid the Marlboroughs- you like having lungs remember!?

My god I think I'd go crazy at all those keys. I admire your self reliance and the fact you treat adventures with so much gusto, I'd be useless. Hope you settle in well

thank you. i can now open ALL THE DOORS in under 10 seconds each, a fact of which I'm rather proud... but actually, the gusto is repressed panic and the self reliance is easy when everyone is so helpful. Hoorah for random passersby and kindly brazillians. and good looking landlords. etc.

Please be careful with thin heels - yesterday I got my new shoes stuck in the cobbles a number of times. It was a lot of fun, considering I was late to get back to work!

PS: The inner emigrant in me compels me to tell you: if you ever need anything, you can count on me. I know how it feels to be in a new country with language barriers and trying to achieve some sort of normality.
