day 3 was definatly the best day
got in line to get in at 10:45 and made my way to the virgin booth to see if wristbands were needed to see 30 seconds to mars and it was where we all decided to meet up. got there and saw that wristbands were needed and to get one you needed to buy something of theirs to get the wristband. My sister wanted to get the picture that was taken the day before at the secret acoustic performance singed by the band, so she went in to buy the album. i followed her in and saw that you could buy the warning by hot chip and get a poster but it was 15 so i was on the fence. she goes to pay and overhears the manager say to someone else that you could get a wristband with any $10 purchase, but they weren't advertising that fact...so i went and got the hot chip album. ITS REALLY GOOD. i gave the wrist band to one of the people i was meeting up with. We all stood in front of the q101 stage so we could be up close for 30.
while waiting I got to see (or hear from across the field) office (decent but boring), sparta (boring...can see why omar and cedric left and formed the mars volta), the hold steady (they really impressed me) and ben kweller (avoided last year...really boring). My plan was to miss the last half of 30's set so i could cross over the fountain and catch all of ASSASSINS set on the bmi stage, since they were overlapping by 15 minutes. Looking back at all the people in front of the stage, i decided that wasn't going to happen and i am seeing assassins again on the 26th...so not a big deal if i miss half of their set. 30 was good, but not as good as the 4/1 show. they only played one song off of the self titled album, and i'm pretty sure they did only so that jared could climb to the top of the stage. They did throw popcicles into the crowd, which was unusual and nice. They ended 15 minutes early, so i hauled ass across the fountain to minimize my loss of assassins set.
i'm hot, tired, feet hurting and sweating like a pig from being in the pit up against the barricade for 30 so imagine my surprise when i get to the stage and they aren't playing. Assassins started late so i didn't miss anything and i got to get up close (usually they open for kill hannah and you can't get anywhere near the stage). the slight breeze helped cool me down a bit, and managed to get a set list after the set was over. Unfortunatly they did not bring their screens and projectors with them, so it wasn't the full Assassins experince, but good exposure for them. They were actually going to do a meet and great by the stage (they never do) and i was going to get them to sign my set list when i get tapped to promote the show and pass out flyers. I mention that 30 should still be signing at the virgin booth and make my way over there. I know that there is some overlap in the fanbase and figure i could get some people who didn't know that deadsy had been added to come see them.
wow...tons of slow moving people trying to cross the fountain, but i am an agressive walker and like frogger i dogded traffic and got to the virgin tent around 5:30. The line was a lot shorter than i had expected with them only have signed for half an hour. tried promoting the show and found the people i had met up with earlier. they mentioned that they had gone through all the wristbands and were signing the non-wristbanned people (screw you flaming lips). Made sure to hand flyers out to people in 30 gear and not people just there to see jared and did the whole town crier thing to promote the show. I ran out of fliers and the guys left the area so the crowd dispursed. Looked at my watch, saw that i needed to get back to not miss the show and i figured i could get more flyers and hand them out before they started...so i tried to move quickly through the crowd.
MORE people to move around and they were moving slower, so i went around, above and through people to get back to the stage for more flyers. couldn't find the guy with them and i couldn't walk any more so i just stayed by the stage. Deadsy was amazing. they need to get back to chicago so i can see them again (not going to the family values tour...especially after what happened in atlanta AND that the closest place for it was alpine valley). Regrouped with my friends and made it back for the end of broken social scene (love them) and watched RHCP from the screen at the other side of the field
