idon't think they should try to rebuild new orleans or any area that is below sea level. i know they are going to and if it was my home my entire life i probably would want to see it rebuilt but couldn't we just turn it into a marsh or wetlands area? that would cost a lot less, and our country can't afford shit right now b/c we have spent it all ( Read more... )

i agree but i also understand that people who have money want to invest it into the constructions because it will make them even richer
think of vegas. if it got destroyed, wouldn't you invest into rebuilding it? i think i would, if i could.

i do see where it would create new jobs too. maybe that could give us a boost. i just see our country going into an economic crisis/panic and i don't really want that to happen. if a lot of private investors want to rebuild it then go for it, i just don't think our country can afford it.

Ash,
Charleston is below sea level too. Can you imagine what it would have been like if they didn't rebuild the majority of it after Hugo? Can you image if it was completely destroyed with no thought of rebuilding the market or the battery. I don't even live there and I know it would break my heart. Heck, the Native Americans believed that the entire state of California was a wasteland because of the earthquakes, mudslides and smog. We sure didn't listen to our elders on that one. Yes, our country is in debt and yes, it's because we are fighting so many wars against air and other things we cannot point to, but let's not take out our poverty on those that can't afford it to begin with. I love you so much - hope to talk with your long red locks later.
