Besides going to the northern prefectures, I'm trying to find a way to get hold of some Tsugaru music. Can anyone recommend a CD, or particular artist?

What exactly do you mean by Tsugaru music? Do you mean "Tsugaru-shamisen?" Do you mean folk songs from Aomori? Also you could try ethnomusicology but I actally don't think they have a Japanologist in that forum (although I could be wrong).

Yes, Tsugaru Shamisen and Aomori folksongs.

OK... I'm actually not too familiar specifically with Tsugaru-shamisen. But the Yoshida brothers (Ryoichiro and Ken'ichi) and Agatsuma Hiromitsu are famous.
