Day Off/Off-Day
G; Miyata/Tamamori
I have a sad senpai, so let's have some miyatama fluff. Sorry it's only short (and stupid) D8 Thank you to the neechan for the read-through ♥ Also there is rain in all my bits of fic today, wtf.

Tamamori looked out of the window then pulled a face, nose wrinkling and corners of his mouth turning down. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Stupid weather. He slumped, head tilting forward until his exposed forehead made contact with the window, and leaned there watching his breath mist up the cold glass.

"Ah," Miyata said as he came out of the kitchen. "The forecast warned this might happen."

"Why didn't you warn me?" Tamamori asked, internally denying that he should have thought to look up the weather forecast himself. That was what Miyatas were for, after all.

"I thought it might hold off, or brighten up already, or…" Miyata said, coming to stand close to Tamamori and look out toward the grey skies and falling rain. Tamamori felt him shrug. "It's a shame, though… on our one day off, like this."

"Nn." Tamamori lifted his head and pressed his palm to the now-cold patch of skin on his forehead. "It sucks."

"Well," Miyata said, turning to face Tamamori with a grin that made half his face disappear. "We can go out anyway, right!"

Tamamori gave a tsk of irritation. Miyata had his bangs tied up with one of Tamamori's hairbands, and it reminded Tamamori that his own hair was tied up in a similar fashion; he tugged the band free and ruffled his hair back into place, still sulking at the weather. More than anything, this was supposed to have been something that Tamamori had organised; it was their day off, their treat, and the stupid weather had to go mess everything up. Miyata was still looking at him, waiting for a response.

"It's still a good day, if it's with Tama." Miyata's voice was softer, his smile less face-eatingly fake, and Tamamori felt himself mollifying.

"It'll be stupid," he said, still clinging to his token resistance as he shrugged into his coat. "Don't blame me when it's stupid."

Miyata was already halfway into his shoes. "I won't."

It was totally stupid. But also, contrary to normal logic, somehow… still kind of fun. The park was deserted and they could barely hear the birdsong over the loud clatter of raindrops on their plastic umbrellas. There was nowhere dry to sit, so they ended up carrying their picnic around all day and having food at an actual restaurant (where the waitress recognised them both and turned pink from excitement). But the emptiness of the park meant they could wander around unimpeded, and the raindrops on Tamamori's umbrella were more soothing than irritating. The freshness of the air as they walked made him more hungry than normal too, so their picnic bentos wouldn't have been enough anyway. There weren't as many people out as either of them had expected, so the shops weren't crowded, and when Tamamori persuaded Miyata to buy a fashionable new jacket he felt as though not only had he contributed to the continuing improvement of Miyata's wardrobe, but also that the day was actually maybe pretty good.

He said as much, on the way home, and Miyata's face lit up in a way that made the gloomy grey weather a little less gloomy and a little less grey, so Tamamori elbowed him and told him to stop it, because it was nice. Miyata smiled more, and Tamamori grinned.

Back at Tamamori's, they put the uneaten food in the fridge for later and settled down to watch one of Miyata's anime series. He'd tried explaining the premise to Tamamori the other week but Tamamori wasn't really certain he understood it properly, even so. Miyata took up way too much of the couch, so Tamamori leaned against him. He stayed leant even after Miyata shifted over, and idly picked at the loose threads in Miyata's scruffy jeans while on the screen a lone girl with a laser cannon opened fire on a warship.

"I liked this," Tamamori announced, talking over the music as the end credits rolled.

"See, I told you you'd enjoy it if we kept watching," Miyata said, but Tamamori shook his head (although that was also true).

"No. I meant, today. Even though it was stupid."

Miyata leaned in way too close. "It was a good day anyway, because Tama was with me, right?"

"Ew." Tamamori wrinkled his nose, shoving at Miyata to make him lean back. "Gross."

Miyata just sat there stupidly, smiled, and didn't move away. So Tamamori kissed him.
