Easy To Read
G; Yara/Yamamoto; fluff
Wow, um, long time no see, fic comm. Anyone still alive out there? I am amused that the first time I get to write fic this year is when I am too sick to go to work, oops. As a result, this may suck. Set vaguely during Koichi's Gravity tour although you don't actually need to know that. For jojibear.

"Yaracchi," Ryota began, and Yara could tell from his tone that this preluded a more serious line of conversation than they had followed to this point. He tried to keep his tone light and even as he replied.

"What is it?"

"…What's important to you?"

Yara turned slightly, meeting Ryota's eyes across the space between their hotel beds, to try to find the motive behind his question. His lips curved in a small involuntary smile. "What the… What's with this sudden serious topic, Ryota?"

"What's important to you, though?" All traces of joking around from earlier were gone, and Yara felt a sudden tension in the air.

"Isn't it a bit late to be talking like this? There's another show tomorrow and we should be resting…"

Ryota's expression started to close off, a sullen tug at the corner of his mouth pulling his lips into a pout. Yara sighed.

"Well, of course dance is," he said, waving his hand slightly in a gesture that encompassed their hotel room but which really meant this tour, what we're doing now. "And performing, and so on. And being outside, by the sea or wherever. Sunshine, and summer, of course. Being able to play sports, and travel. And my health, and having enough food and drink, and sleep…" Yara started listing things by counting off on his fingers, "…and Chura, and my family, and Okinawa, well, all of Japan really, and my friends, and the people I know and like from work…"

From the way Ryota's expression closed off further, Yara knew he was giving the wrong kind of answers. And, as soon as he reached this conclusion, the transparency of Ryota's initial question also became dazzlingly apparent. Yara's eyes sparkled as he pressed on. "…like Travis, and of course Koichi-kun and Shonentai-san and Go-senpai and Inocchi, and Maachin and of course Yone… Then of course there's Uchi, and Yuma, and Yudai, and Fukuchan, and Matsu, and Kosshi…" Ryota's face turned mutinous, so Yara cheerfully ploughed on. "I really like Shota, too, and Eda-chan, and…"

"All right," Ryota cut him off, tone more sulky than brusque. "You're right, we need to go to sleep. Busy day tomorrow." He reached out to turn off his bedside light. "Good night."

Plunged into sudden darkness, Yara allowed his face to crack into the massive smile he'd been struggling to keep back until that point. The faint grey light from the hotel room window silhouetted Ryota as a lump on his bed, under the duvet. "But I hadn't finished!" Yara protested.

"Tell me in the morning."

Yara's grin didn't fade as he slid out of his own bed, bare feet curling against the soft carpet. Covering the narrow gap between their beds, Yara nudged at what he presumed to be Ryota's shoulder. "But you didn't let me get to one of my most important things," he said. "It's not fair if you ask me a question and then don't let me give a proper answer."

The lump shifted slightly. "What."

Yara nudged Ryota aside enough to climb into the other man's bed beside him. "It's not a 'what', it's a 'who'." He tugged the duvet out from where it was wrapped tightly around Ryota and partly covered himself with it too.

"Who, then." Ryota moved ever so slightly, no longer keeping his back to Yara like a sulky human wall.

"I'm surprised you need to ask," Yara said, nudging Ryota's knee with his own. "I thought you were smarter than that. Don't you know who my most important person is already?"

"I…" Ryota began, then broke off and lay in silence for the space of four heartbeats as realisation dawned. "You were teasing me?"

"You make it so easy," Yara confirmed, grinning wider than ever.

"Ugh, you are such a shit." A closed fist met Yara's chest with very little force, and then Ryota was lying half across him, one arm draped over his torso. "A total shit, Tomoyuki."

"I'll go back to my own bed, then."

Ryota's hand gripped Yara's bare shoulder. "No, don't do that."

A moment passed, with the tickle of Ryota's hair brushing against Yara's neck. Then, Ryota spoke again. "Did you really mean that?"

Yara mentally backtracked through their conversation so far. "Which bit?"

"The bit about your most important person."

Yara sighed. "You know it already, Ryota."

"Yes, I know, just… say it again?" The mattress dipped as Ryota propped himself up on his elbows, a silhouette against grey as he looked down at Yara's barely-visible face. "I want to hear you say it, that's all."

Yara huffed with laughter, wrapping his arms around Ryota's ribcage and squeezing him in a hug that made Ryota lose his balance and half fall across Yara for real. Yara didn't let go, though, and soon Ryota relaxed against him, shifting his head slightly so that Yara could kiss him, soft and fond and entertained all at once. "You have no idea how important you are to me, Ryota," Yara said as they pulled apart. "And you're an idiot if you ever doubt that. Got it?"

Ryota nodded, the tip of his nose brushing against Yara's as he hovered close enough for another kiss. "Got it. And... Yaracchi?"

"Mm?"

"...Thank you."

Yara's arms tightened around Ryota again. "You're welcome."

"You're still a shit, though."

Yara smiled. "Yeah," he said. "I know."
