In my opinion, there really aren't many jobs anywhere. I knew when I moved to LA that my choices would either be a) stay in Ohio in my parents house until the economy got better and then move to LA OR b) move to LA and be available for whenever jobs start to appear.
And honestly, I am 100% confident that I would have had a job 3 weeks ago if I hadn't stopped pursuing it because I interviewed for my dream job. The first job told me I was their favorite but they had to let other people come in for THEIR 3rd interviews. But then I took my risk and am still holding out for my dream job opp.
There ARE jobs though. I've been on a lot of interviews, so has Colin. In fact I have another interview for Tuesday. The UTA list and entertainmentcareers.net are VERY helpful. Plus I can give you a list of websites that post their jobs online.
Ok, bottom line: you'll be fine. And you won't be alone!
i think at this point there isn't a lot of work anywhere, and most people have realized that they need to take a non-degree job while they search. Ain't no shame in working retail or restaurants or whatever to stay afloat while you look for something that requires a degree. I've had tons of degree-holding professionals come into my work begging for part-time jobs to tide them over until they can find something again.
and you'll probably regret not moving. if i could logically move out west right now, i would.
