Year of the dragon, 2024. shanghai7 October 27 2024, 09:42:46 UTC

You know how Ju Jitsu began? When a samurai was dismounted and lost his sword, he had to escape dishonour by using his bare hands. There was an interview in the paper here, years ago about a top (gaijin) Iaidoka.

Wow, nice, I didn't know that! 👍

Do you remember the name of that foreign iaidoka by any chance?

P.S. I like the title of your comment, LOL

Wow, that's so cool and interesting! I hadn't heard of him before, thanks for sharing! I've been looking at swords in museums a lot recently because of Touken Ranbu, but it's really different seeing them in action!

My pleasure! ❤️
Thank you for reading! (__)

Yes, it's nice to know that such talent and skill doesn't just exist in the past or in fiction but in our own times as well.

I looked up Touken Ranbu and it's really so cool and creative that there was a live stage musical based on a game!!

Not just musicals, there was a kabuki show based on it, too! (There's also Final Fantasy kabuki, speaking of game-based shows!). The Japanese theater scene is absolutely booming, and I love how they mix history/tradition with modern pop culture in shows like that!

That's absolutely fascinating! Thank you so much for telling me about it!

Yes, that's one of the things I admire about Japan: the way they seamlessly blend the old and the new at every level...
