tension at Pandemonium

Aug 21, 2010 14:19

(Disclosure: I should point out, firstly: I am a member of the 'Arvard 'Ardboyz i.e. one of the Warhammer players, secondly: I was not there this week - I don't get to play games very often because of babycare duties)

There's been a bit of tension at Pandemonium between the Magic players and the Warhammer players. Apparently this week there was an ( Read more... )

Wow, that seems pretty ridiculous. And from the report of the incident, it seems that Tyler made his decision before talking to anyone form your club. What a crappy way to run a business.

It's been suggested we email Tyler directly so I will do that when I have some time.

Coincidentally, I had a remarkably crappy retail experience that very night at that very store. Even though I was standing there with a large shrinkwrapped boardgame box in my hands, I found myself completely ignored by two clerks while they both focused on chattily helping some guy pick out and package up his Magic cards. I stood amidst a small crowd of other clearly-holding-things-and-yet-invisible people, while we all tried not to get run down by sugar-addled Magic teenagers fighting over ice cream. It was really stressful and weird.

(And please forgive me if I elbowed past you in the basement without recognizing you!!)

No-no, I wasn't there myself.

It is interesting to hear your experience though. Do you mind if I mention it in my email to Tyler?

I wonder if Tyler is aware that if we leave, he loses most of his terrain (~4/5), 6 of the 9 table shells and all of the table tops - not to mention a good majority of the wargaming business.

Thursdays are - as of now, free at the Hobby Bunker. I will be part of a group of people who are trying to coordinate the time and space with the owner to make more of the tables available. As of now, major shipping is done on thursday nights, utilizing all but one or two tables.

future plans might result in as many as 20 tables at the hobby bunker...

I'm glad I'm not the only person angered by how Tyler handled this - as misery loves company.......

Yeah, I wondered about the tables and terrain.

I would go and play at Hobby Bunker if I could do so on Thursdays (or possibly another weekday evening). As now, it would only be once every few weeks.

Just about all the multi-facet gaming stores in Nottingham focus very heavily on Magic because it's the largest money-grabber in the sector: with a new edition every year or less, it keeps them coming back, and it's expensive (good profit margins). Having never got involved at store gaming I can't say how the divisions work, but yes, there are a lot more Magic nights than SATT or wargames.
