So at the start of the week, in the US, a PS3 with a 60GB hard disk cost $599.

Then Sony announced that they were cutting the price to $499, and introducing a 80GB model for $599. We shall overlook the fact that Sony has the balls to charge $100 for 20GB of hard disk space, when you can buy an entire 80GB hard disk for $20Now, Sony has slipped ( Read more... )

I fell out with Sony years ago. The way in which they treated Europe over the PS3 was totally shameful. How are you by the way? Its been a while.

Don't forget that part of the reason for this so-called price drop is that they're basically selling-through their existing PS3 stock so they can start moving the new 80GB models (which, I might point out are much cheaper for Sony to manufacture) for the same price as the 60GB model ( ... )

Software emulation though could be so much better if they actually made the effort. It would mean less problems with things like HD upscaling, and problems with paticular games could be patched quickly and simply.

From what I've heard though, the PS3's PS2 emulation is pretty quick and nasty, which is probably why it can't cope with a lot of games. The longer a console or system is on the market, the more likely developers are to use shortcuts - in my Amiga days, it was known as "banging the hardware", where you bypass the developer API's and write straight to the hardware itself. It can make your code run a lot faster and do fun things, but it sacrafices compatibility.
