a couple of weeks ago, i was surfing the news pages during lunch one day and nearly jumped out of my seat when i read it has been confirmed that coldplay will be headlining the
glastonbury festival this year. omgwtfbbq!
I. NEED. TO. GO.
i have been listening to coldplay for a while now, and they are definitely one of my all-time favourite bands. i was googling for their videos on youtube one evening and stumbled onto their live performance of "the scientist" at the glastonbury festival way back in 2005.
i was floored. i can't even describe fully what is so amazing about it. one of the best coldplay songs ever. beautiful lyrics. chris' brilliant rendition and ad-libbing, adding a special touch to the original album version. the crowd singing along and then taking chris' cue at the end. the chorus being replayed in reverse at the end of the song (watch the music video to understand its meaning). chris introducing jonny buckland as his best friend in the middle of the song.
there must have been at least fifty thousand people gathered under the stars that night, listening to coldplay do their thing. it is one of the live performances that leave you thinking "i wish i was there"...

when i first saw "glastonbury", i thought it was just another name of a place for holding concerts - something like our indoor stadium or the max pavillion... until i was told that it is actually a small town west of london where an open-air music and performing arts festival is held almost yearly. the festival is usually held in worthy farm (yes, a dairy farm) over three to six days, and festival goers would camp in tents or campervans in the farm and soak in the various performances scattered across the fields everyday. how cool is that!?
(well, that's if you don't mind the hygiene and cleanliness issues that may arise while you're out in the open... *flashbacks to the muddy laneway experience*)
the glastonbury festival will be held on the 22nd to 26th june this year. alas, tickets have been sold out since last october! coldplay will take on the pyramid stage on the 25th june. the last i heard, U2 and beyonce will also be headlining the festival on the 24th and 26th june respectively.
sigh. perhaps i should just be content watching their performances on youtube after the festival. :\
