I want to secure backups of my computer. I don't have an extra drive I can hook it up to. I thought of using this
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm

Is this a good idea?
All help and suggestions listened to.

I think there would be a couple of problems, which is not to say that it's a bad solution, just that you should think about it.

The first issue would be, space, of course. Storing a backed up image of your entire drive on your drive will quickly become prohibitively storage-expensive, especially if you plan on backing up regularly, and thus might have 2 or more images stored at once ( ... )

Those are good points.
My best option seems to be to copnsolidate what I really need into "my documents" put it on a writeable cd I can spare (no has) and update the file and write to that dvd or cd often.
I wonder if I call my manufacturer they will tell me how to get windows backups on my computer,

Actually, rather than a writable CD, use a thumb drive. writable CDs lose degrade over time, which is precisely what you don't want in a backup.

How do you mean, 'get windows backups on your computer'?

I do indeed. It didn't come preloaded. But maybe it's on my bootdesk, and Eris poke me if I'm messing with that alone....again.

Damn my jump drive was lost years ago. I wonder if I can afford to spend......
Looks for deals.

What are your requirements? How much data do you need to back up? What failures are you trying to survive. Budget?

I like Josh's suggestion. Thumb drive backups of documents, only should be cheap and easy. No sw needed.
