Necklace issues

I've had trouble with necklaces myself. In choir we have these cross necklaces we put on, and without fail the laquer side would flop on my robe and the plain matte brass side ended up showing instead. One of the tenors showed me that if you stretch out the necklace in front of you, and let it dangle in the air, you can sort of see which way it's facing before you put it on. It'll still flip over sometimes when you're walking, but you kind of get an idea of where it's going to be. It seems you have a similar problem, which is why it flipped over when you took it off for a shower.
