I'm pretty sure being married is not a personality trait, should be estar not ser.

Ah, but it is (supposed to be) a permanent condition.
A friend of mine visits the Dominican Republic a few times a year. He says that a few years ago, married went with ser -- and now, more and more people are using estar for it.
