As a gay man I am angered not only on the passage of prop. 8, also by the fact how people of races that some consider a minority tend to think that when they are discriminated it only happens to their race. Bigotry is bigotry whether it's aimed towards Blacks. Hispanics etc. When boiled down it's not so much a gay thing as it is a blast against me as an American citizen. To pass a law telling a group of Americans they do not have the same rights as others, and at the same time letting people who may be here illegally have rights handed to them is a serious crime. America's past has not always been filled with proud moments; slavery, women not having the right to vote until 90 years ago and so on. But gays in the past have suffered horrible cruelties, beatings and worse, so you would think people who have known this kind of hatred would at least sympathize. Polls have shown that many of them voted for prop. 8 and in doing so accomplished doing exactly the same thing they have complained happened to them. They have made it legal now for
