Question about modern computer hardware design

Why does every laptop have a keyboard? Bear with me. The keyboard is usually the most annoying part of most laptop designs (usually because they are too small or awkwardly laid out), so do away with it. Keyboards are all low-draw USB devices nowadays anyway, why not have a single slab (non-folding) laptop, touch screen or not, with the whole thing ( Read more... )

True, it would be awkward what with the keyboard not being attached and sliding around independently of the computer.

Ok actually it's not bad. It could have a little folding stand on the bottom, to hold it up at a decent, adjustable angle.

If only we knew a hardware engineer.

I actually like the keyboard on my laptop. And one of my coworkers switched to using an Thinkpad-like keyboard on his desktop because it requires less wrist movement.

Really? Probably because I am a cheap bastard and also clumsy. I have broken laptop keyboards before and I have a eeePC now (because I am cheap) and the keyboard was designed by a very, very malicious engineer that either hated people or was a midget.
