Hahaha, don't be fooled! Nothing publish-worthy comes out of nano, that's just where the fun begins. But you should do it anyway because it could help to get your ideas and inspiration flowing after a long hiatus. :)

I mostly see NaNo as practice, much like how I view fanfiction writing. I figure if I try to approach it as if I was trying to write something professional-level, I could see what level I'm at as a writer. That and it would be my first attempt at NaNo, so it'll be interesting to see what happens when I finally give it a shot.
