the first time greta sees her, she knows. she knows that it's all wrong, and that going up to talk to her will just make things worse. she talks to her anyway. hayley's her name. greta likes it. it rolls off her tongue softly, like vanilla ice cream on august 29th. it sounds like her bright red hair.
greta runs into her again at the movie store on a weekend. she's browsing the drama section. hayley remembers her and says hi, then picks up moulin rouge and walks out into the parking lot. her car is dark bluegreen, like her eyes. it's the last time greta sees her for a while.
a year later, greta sees her at the same movie store. hayley doesn't seem to recognize her, but she gets moulin rouge again. her car's still bluegreen.
sometimes greta thinks she's not real. sometimes she thinks she dreamed her.
