it is a reply to someone romeo says
he mentions peace
and then *momentary lapse in remembering of name* the capulet dude says: "peace, i hate the word, as i hate hell, all montagues, and thee"
but i could be wrong
like it coulda been:
romeo: peace...
capulet guy: i hate the word...etc.etc.etc

WRONG
it's a reply to what Benvolio says.
'I do but keep the peace'
And Capulet guy is Tybalt.

*tzing*

Ah, Congreve... what do I remember of 'The Way of the World'...
'Is is your intention to damn this play? Then I tell you this will be a living play when you are all dead and damned.'

...but that's not really pertinent here, lesse now... ah!

'I couldn't help it, I can resist anything except temptation.'
