Those are Joshua Trees, which are from the Yucca family. The Yucca is a bit smaller, as I understand it. (Did a lot of reading at the Park's visitor center. LOL)

Aren't Joshua Trees lovely? They only grow in two places in the world - here and in Jerusalem. Neat, huh? And, actually, they aren't a tree or a cactus, just a member of the lily family. (The second fact is coutesy of the visitor's center.) :)
