I started doing this with my CDsingles a couple of years ago but then chickened out and kept them. Also since I nearly lost all my mp3s when my hard drive was having issues, I'm still not entirely sure I could relax about this.

Still, good going fella!

What format / bitrate did you rip at?

This is kind of on my mind now we have to a) clear the flat to dress it and sell it and b) move soon!

i am backing it up right now! so as well as the copy on the home iMac, i will have a copy squirreled away on my mac at work and a single DVD to keep with my regular CD albums.

I decided to do 256kbps vbr AAC for the singles. i'm dropping to 192 for the albums just because they will be so much larger.

with my singles and compilations (NOWs etc) to hand digitally i can make more compilations for DJing or whatever - and basically hear them more often.

I will almost certainly take some of these off your hands and pay you some cash for them?

Elastica - Connection [EP]
Elastica - Line Up
Josh Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness: '96 Remixes [Single]
Los Del Rio - Macarena (Single)
Messiah - I Feel Love
Messiah - Temple Of Dreams
New Fast Automatic Daffodils - Life Is An Accident (Disc 2)
The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu - It's Grim Up North
The Ones - Flawless (Single)
Underworld - Dark and Long (UK E.P.)
Utah Saints - Love Song

I have most of these already but either as part of a continuous mix (with RUB songs preceeding/following) or on tape (the Macarena as SO AWESOME).

welcome to my world. i've ripped over 3/4 of my CDs now (many of them at 320kb/s!) i think but i have kept about 250 CDs (having got rid of about 150-200 in the last 3 years inc. promos, singles).

320kb/s mp3 - have you tried apple's lossless encoding - you get a goodish size reduction for positively no quality loss at all.

i reckon i have a smidge under 1000 albums. keep 100 'out', throw away 100, pack away 800 into big wallets.
