WOW! I'm not a fan of tomatoes when they are raw, but they are easily made into food. From the picture, that looks like an amazing variety of great produce.
We'd sometimes get a few bruises or soft spots on things, but I tried to remember that everything was picked when it was ready and then immediately delivered to me rather than being picked under-ripe so it could withstand shipping and shelf. When everything is so ripe, it's easier for those spots to happen, but the flavor is unlike anything else since it got a full dose of sun and nutrients.
Yeah, the guy I talked to at Maker Faire said they harvest three times a week, so usually the produce is delivered to you within 24 hours of the time it was picked. Pretty cool. I gotta say, I'm a fan of the tomatoes from this box (and the ones I bought last week at the farmers market) because they *smell* like tomatoes. I'd never realized that the bred for big box supermarket tomatoes had kind of lost their odor. Weird.
I cut up the lettuce tonight (with a plastic lettuce knife) and was amazed at how *green* it smelled. Really amazing that something picked when it is ripe can smell so wonderful.
I'm with you on the pickyness factor. That's one reason I'd never be able to use one of the local delivery services for groceries. I know I'm a freak, but I actually like my peaches, nectarines and pears to crunch when I eat them and there's no way in hell I'd get that if I didn't pick them out myself.
Also, you should be used to how sick and twisted Geoff is by now. I mean, he wanted to start a White Castle franchise. No sane, healthy person could want that.
Geoff also likes his peaches and pears to crunch, which means I know he won't be eating any of the peaches we got. ;)
And, well, I love my weird guy. It's a good thing, because our son is turning out to be pretty weird, too. Nothing in my life is ever going to be normal again.
