Brief Note

I found this as a footnote to what I'm currently reading and found it both amusing enough and serious enough to be worth sharing:

If you are a believer in Tim LaHaye's dispensationalist Bible-prophecy scheme, please note that it is cruel and irresponsible of you to have pets. Someday soon, at any moment, Jesus is coming back to get you before you ( Read more... )

I'm fairly sure they were writing sarcastically, mostly mocking the christians who claim to believe in the rapture but don't actually think about it unless they're gloating over the fact that they get to Go On A Trip and their neighbor doesn't hahahahahaha the neighbor sux they are perfect OMG. O.o ...erm... ok. I need to go back to bed.

While someone that believes in the rapture and is "truly righteous" wouldn't go around judging people, I have never seen anyone with both these qualities.

All the believers I have talked to about the rapture have universally "known" that they were going to be taken up while the "heathen" around them (which were the majority as far as they were concerned) would be "left behind".

I suppose there are rapture believers that aren't smug and self-righteous, but they politely keep quiet about it.

Interesting blog you linked to...

I was forced to watch the movie "Left Behind" because the barber shop had it on a loop on the TV in front of me ::shudder::... I was willing to suspend my disbelief up until the point the protagonist walks through the jet's first class section and Every Single Person there has been raptured.

This is a nod to one of the more vile fundamentalist precepts: that God rewards the virtuous with wealth, so if someone is wealthy, they must deserve it and should keep their money. If you are virtuous, and not yet wealthy, just wait, and God will reward you soon. In the meantime, fight against any attempt to make the wealthy pay for their fair share of the tax burden, because one day you'll be rich too...

Oh, and you can make sure your animals are taken care of by having an email sent...

Well I prefer to think my animals will go with me. After all they are creatures created by God as well. My animals around me in a perfect world happens to be my idea of heaven.
