Prenatal Treatment for Gays?

Go there and watch the video.

Have fun with this one, kiddies.

"Some Evangelicals are unhappy, too. They say being gay is a choice and a sin that can be overcome by prayer and counseling."I want to know how many Evangelicals are actually gay and have actually tried that. Because it's an easy thing to be able to ( Read more... )

The Rev. Al Mohler has an interesting article on it: http://albertmohler.com/blog_read.php?id=891

He makes some good points, but winds up supporting the idea of a "cure". What I don't get is what's the difference between this and, say, eugenics? I mean the Nazis (and Americans) were wrong for going after a "master race" by making sure that certain people didn't procreate (by means of sterilization or murder), but wasn't the end goal also evil in itself? Attempts to remove God-given diversity from the human race? And that's assuming that this technique WOULD work.

I saw X-Men II and it was a bit preachy for me. They might as well have had all the characters wear purple outfits and talk with lisps.

I will say that if there were a way to turn someone straight that they could consent to, I wouldn't mind it. I'd fear people getting pressured into it (one way OR the other...) but it's not quite the same as determining a child's sexuality before birth. I'm sure there may be gay guys out there who'd turn straight if they could. I'm sure there's straight guys out there that'd turn gay if they could. Should a person have that much control over their sexuality? Maybe not, but at least it'd be THEIR decision.

Also, in addition to the sheep, I have heard of fruit flies (oh the irony), killer whales, penguins and bonobo (pygmy chimpanzees; deemed the closest ancestor to humans) engaging in homosexual activities.

It's quite an interesting thing to see.

I'm not really sure how I feel about genetic manipulation. I mean, it could be very beneficial. It could prove to be a way to eradicate cancer before it ever surfaces. It could take care of any future diseases the child may potentially have, and it could greatly reduce the abortion rate.

However, until the science is perfected, it could end up hurting the babies. And when it is perfected, it could raise a bunch of ethical issues. Are we playing God by manipulating the genes in unborn babies? Will this lead to petty gene manipulation to control eye color, hair color, skin color, etc? Will this be a way to build a master race?

So, I don't know how I feel about it. Great benefits, but possible ethical issues as well.
