You should see a urologist who specializes in women. A lot of them only really know about guy parts.
But yes, three infections in a year is bad. I wouldn't necessarily worry about your kidney function yet; that's something they'll probably check with a blood work-up. And just some encouraging personal experience - even while I was in the hospital on IV antibiotics having a tube stuck into my kidney, my kidney function was excellent. It was kind of baffling. But it was better than the average person's even though I had an insane killer infection that pretty much had to be drained out through a tube they ran from my kidney all the way down to my naughty bits.
Still, you should see a specialist ASAP. Hospital stays are expensive, surgery is really effing expensive, and right now you can probably stop the chronic problems with some focused antibiotics. I have other suggestions, but they involve your *ahem* personal life, so I don't know if you want me posting 'em here.
I'm going to do some research on doctors in hopes of finding one that can work with our budget (or lack there of ). I'm going to see someone as soon as I possibly can
( ... )
Good. I hate how some doctors will only give you like 2 days of antibiotics...I mean, you can get away with 2-3 days worth, but that's really pushing it if you're predisposed to UTI infection. You need 7-10 days of at least Bactrim. I was on Noroxin for breakthrough infections until Ye Olde Kidney Incidente. So....whee, Levaquin. But hey, as long as those douchey bacteria die, I don't care.
Bactrim was what they gave me last time. 3 days of it, and I was still hurting after that 3 days.
They gave me Cipro- something or other this time. I don't have my bottle with me. The doctor said that this should clear it up no problem. I believe her, as I'm seriously feeling 90% better since starting the meds. Trying to come off the Percocet today. Have had some back aches here and there, so nothing too bad. I feel really weak and worn out though. That's what sucks the most.
Aside from antiboiotics.....you should always ask the doctor for some Prydium! What it does aside from making your pee bright orange is it takes away the pain when you pee.
I get really bad UTI's from time to time, which unfortunately progress to where there is alot of blood BOOOO
So...antibiotics, Prydium. Defiantely. Cranberry juice sorta works but you need the stuff without the sugar in it.
In the meantime...when it comes to pee time...get in the shower (if you have a removable shower head especially) or in the tub with shallow and very warm water...and go pee. A doctor told me to do this and it definitely helps too.
Just some suggestions to help til the antibiotics kick in :)
I was lucky. It stopped hurting right after I took the first dose. I also was drugged out on some Toradol, so that might have helped. XD
They have a new OTC product now that helps with the Symptoms of a UTI. I don't remember the name other than it starts with an A and has an X in it.
I'm gonna start taking cranberry supplements to ward these off. I tried to do the cranberry juice thing last time and it just made me sick. My stomach can't handle that much acidity. I have enough trouble with orange juice. The supplements supposedly give you the same benefits without upsetting your stomach.
