But I think Sky News won this one. Generally better choice of camera angle, less inane wittering from commentators, no cutting away from the outside action to talk to irrelevant studio guests or vox pop interviews.
I don't have Sky, but I agree with the consensus that the BBC was rubbish. I am 100% a supporter of the BBC and the licence fee, but I think the producer/director/whatever on this one should be thoroughly shamed and sent for entry-level re-training. I was looking forward to learning about all the boats - what was special about them, why they were there, how their crews had been selected etc. Nothing on any of that.
And if you're going to have lots of "celebrity presenters" - which is a stupid idea imo - shouldn't you at least use them? John Barrowman is very easy on the eye, and I would have loved to hear the bells, but no - the belfry got one thirty-second slot at the beginning and that was it.
It was only after I posted and went looking elsewhere that I discovered everyone thought the BBC's coverage was appalling - I thought it was just me being pernickety!
Like you I've always been a supporter of the BBC, but that's partly because I expect them to excel at occasions like these.
I don't know that the Sky commentators were any better informed, but they did seem to have a better idea of when to just shut up and let the pictures speak for themselves, instead of spewing non-stop ill-informed drivel.
The BBC also ended its coverage of the concert at the Palace before the fireworks had finished.
Sky News must be available through Freeview or Freesat or something, as my mum has it. I have it as part of my Virgin cable package.

We're losing our analogue signal next week so I suppose we'll finally have to do something about going digital. There's no cable here, and I don't want to pay a Sky subscription, so we'll be going Freeview and then we'll see what's actually on it.
