Eek, Yuletide already!

I just nominated a fandom! (Damages, if you're curious. It's like The Devil Wears Prada, except in a law office. And except that people tend to get murdered. Or framed for murder. Or hire a contract murderer. Or--well, anyway, it has the same femslashy admiration/hate mentor/mentee vibe ( Read more... )

Oh wow, Yuletide again! Time flies when you're having fun. That makes it about a year since I first joined lj. I remember how nervous I was, and how I didn't know how to do anything. You were a big help to me on that front. :)

I really hope Damages makes it. Although my new fandom obsession is Mad Men, so I'll probably be writing for that. I might write for LFN too though, just for old times sake. So anyway, what have you been up to? I'm posting my BSG fic, Sarah, at the beginning of November on bsg_bigbang. I've done a pretty extensive rewrite, because I think I've really improved as a writer since then. I've also randomly gotten involved in Harry Potter fandom, which can be pretty wanky, but is also a lot of fun, surprisingly. Do you have any new fandoms?

Oh, you're reposting Sarah! I definitely want to see what you've done with it. (We all evolve as writers, so I get the urge to edit. Although honestly, it was an excellent story to begin with!)

And Harry Potter? Oh, the mothership of wankyness! I never actually ever read the books, but I've enjoyed watching the fandom anyway. It's so huge, though, you almost have to find your own corner. What characters or pairings are you fannish about?

I don't have any new fandoms at the moment. I've got several DVDs waiting for me to watch, but I've been wiped out timewise by real life. I'm only now sort of getting back online. But I hope to be back to my regular schedule soon!

Yes, I am posting it! I'm pretty excited too. I think that looking at the story as a whole, the main problem with it is that the pacing is off, which is natural, because I was making it up as I went along! So I'm trying to fix that. But thank you for your kind words ( ... )

I should have guessed it would be Bellatrix! I always thought she sounded quite interesting. Do you have any recs for good stories? (I may not have read the books, but it's impossible to be in fandom without being familiar with canon anyway, so I'd be up for reading anything you think is good.)

This summer I totally planned to watch Damages, but ended up with TSCC instead. Which is not something I regret, not at all, because TSCC is incredible, but I still have to watch DWP with Evil Lawyers.

I'm quite excited about Yuletide myself, even though I will not participate. femslash09 was nerve-wracking enough - I don't think I can take more of something like that more than once a year.

I think Yuletide will be the one, big thing that I allow myself. Because you're right...one is enough!

I know I keep repeating myself, but you would love Damages. A little bit of DWP, but a little bit of LFN, too. An LFN where, instead of taking out terrorists, they target corporate evildoers -- even as they live under an autocratic reign of terror at their workplace. (And...the main character is a naive idealist who gets sucked into a world where she's expected to pursue just ends by ruthless means....boy, does this sound familiar! I actually like this character a LOT, and I think you would, too.)

It's definitely my kind of thing, especially since it is centred around interesting women. And I will also repeat myself and say that you should watch TSCC. Lena Heady's Sarah Connor is slightly different from Linda Hamilton's Sarah, but you can see the character development from T2. And while I'm sure you will want to smack John Connor, the show itself is just incredible. It's like early BSG, in a way - though not as fast-paced - without the fail that came afterwards (because Fox cancelled it, argh). One of the rare shows where I've actually been interested in the plot. And Sarah herself renders me speechless with her fabulousness.

I definitely intend to watch TSCC! I haven't had any time to catch up with DVDs or downloads in ages, though, although I hope my schedule will be more manageable soon. But it's probably better that it got cancelled, I hate to say: TV shows never seem to do well past the second season or so.

I hope it gets it because really, there needs to be more Damages fics in the world. :D

I so agree!!!! (Although you've at least provided some, while I have to confess that I haven't got around to writing any. This could be a good excuse, though!)

Please do, write some for us! :D :D :D

I have another one in the works though, a Patty/Tom-ish fic. :)

Ooooh, Patty/Tom would be really interesting. They have such a warped relationship!

omgwtfyuletide!! So excited! I just nominated The Beatles' Revolver, after seeing it mentioned in the comm, because who doesn't want to read fic of Eleanor Rigby meeting the Taxman? \o/

Everything which is nominated gets through, and is only struck off if either the mods know it's too large, or someone else dobs it in. (Which I'm hoping no one will do with Spooks, seeing as it pretty much is too large!)

who doesn't want to read fic of Eleanor Rigby meeting the Taxman?

I just *love* how that sort of thing becomes possible with Yuletide!

I think Spooks had more stories written during last year's Yuletide than any other fandom, so it's definitely a borderline case. But really, it's not a big fandom *outside* of Yuletide, so I don't know if that might save it.

Yeah, you nominating it means it will be on the list of fandoms people can request. Doesn't guarantee a story, of course, but you have to have the first step.

Oh, hooray! So at least it will be recognized with a nomination. Even just seeing that makes me feel like I did something good for a neglected little fandom.
