Damages Season 3

I just watched S3 Episode 3 -- and I continue to think that this season is every bit as good as Season 1. But there's a different feel to it, too -- S1 was more of a straight-up thriller, with the focus on suspense and solving a mystery. There's a mystery (maybe several) to be solved this season, as well, but it doesn't strike me as a "thriller" ( Read more... )

I think unsettling is a good word. They're taking the characters to places they've never gone before. It definitely feels like driving over the edge of a cliff, knowing that we're going to fall but not yet knowing how painful it's going to be when we hit the ground ( ... )

I think you're right about Tom. He loves her, but in a "I want approval from her" kind of way. The trouble is, she doesn't really respect him. Not as an equal. Not even as potentially growing into an equal, like Ellen. Instead, she merely finds him useful, because he's so eager to do everything she demands. It's quite sad. Everything about Tom is sad, especially now that we know what's going to happen to him! :-(

I'm two episodes behind *peeks through fingers*, but I'll be back to read and respond once I catch up! I'm so glad you're liking what you've seen so far.

I just finished watching! I got that dread feeling watching Joe Torbin. That woman was so going to die and I know he's weak but that was also just dumb.

Our scary antihero, the fighter-for-good-who-was-also-actually-kind-of-evil in S1, is...so far...the moral center of this season!
Hee! I love how the cop wouldn't detain without cause and said something like, "I know you don't usually follow rules, Patty." Everyone even knows about Patty but can't pin anything on her. And you're correct, in this case she was right.

And dude, is Ellen's sister a crack addict? With that baby? And the emotionally abusive father who obviously favors Ellen? Messed up.

I think that terrible, tragic things are going to happen to nearly everyone this season.
Yup. Like you say there is a slow dread to the whole thing. I was so worried about Danielle when she started speaking in half-sentences. Oh goodness.

And the emotionally abusive father who obviously favors Ellen?

Yes! That was horrible to watch. It's interesting that you point that out, though, because it kind of reminds me of the Patty-Tom-Ellen dynamic, too. Patty being the emotionally abusive parental figure, Tom the one who desperately wants approval, but Ellen being the true golden child. And what does Ellen seem to be doing but walking from the family triangle right back into the work one.
