Hijacking your thread again with spoilers for Damages S1belantanaApril 4 2010, 03:14:21 UTC
RAAAAAYYY! No! Oh god I nearly died. I have to wait for the last three episodes until my internet regenerates and I don't know how I'm expected to sleep or work or do anything in that time other than frantically try to deduce what the hell is going on.
Have you seen bradcpu's "Lightning Field"? I was really blown away by that vid - because like you, I never pay attention to lyrics, unless it's a parody vid set to a hilarious rap song. Which Seeker lends itself quite well to as well, *g*
But wow - that vid? The editing itself *subverts* canon, which is really cool to watch. I didn't hear one word of the lyrics, but the images alone and the juxtaposition of young Cara/Old Cara/Kahlan told the story the vidder wanted to tell. For some reason, I also really enjoy that vid because the tone is darker than the show.
OMG that vid! Creepy and intense, and I really liked the song even though nothing in the lyrics actually registered in my ears other than "strike me down" over and over (which fit rather well!).
Rap songs would work WONDERFULLY for this fandom. So would a lot of electronica. Man, I wish I knew how to vid!!! But the big learning curve -- plus the heavy-duty hardware/software requirements -- put that kind of fannish activity out of my reach, I think.
I'm a little baffled by my own response to this fandom, so I hear you. I still think you should write fic, however. What is parody in other fandoms is canon in this one.
I SAW THE PROMO!! I WANT THIS EPISODE RIGHT NOW OMG!!1!1!1!!
LOTS is this strange combination of absurdly over-the-top ridiculousness combined with some of the most gorgeous visuals on TV. Everything (and everyone) just looks SO BEAUTIFUL, it's almost all I can think about.
And hmmm, fic. I don't think I could approach it in a normal way, with plotting and outlines etc. It would have to be free-writing crazy stuff. Like...what if POWERFUL MAGIC turned the main characters into animals (each one different, reflecting their personalities) and they had to turn themselves back into people again before sunrise or else they would be stuck that way forever, but to do so they need to find the GILDED AMULET OF ANGURD, which normally takes the shape of a daisy but reveals its true nature under a full moon, except that Zedd -- having turned into a gopher -- has eaten it?

I KNOW! I was rewatching 2.10 the other day, and the pretty, it just BLOWS ME AWAY. The colours! The filters! The actors!

Since I can't see the show here - can you toss some vid recs my way? I'll eventually get around to it, I hope!, but I'm not too bothered by spoilers, and I read the books back in the day and so the general story elements are familiar anyway.
The one episode I caught bits of actually featured, I believe Darken Rahl torturing Cara (the blond?) with the dildo of doom - and I was all, OMG !!!! They made TeeVEE show out of that sick fuck's books! AIIIIEEEE!!!
(I did note, in passing, that it was all very pretty.....)
Do you *ahem* obtain *ahem* shows? Or do you prefer to stick with legal viewing? I can help you out with the former if you are interested.
I read the books after seeing the first season, and it is so totally different. They take some of the plot elements, but they completely change them up. Plus, they pretty much ignore/gloss over a lot of the more problematic elements. I still don't know how someone read the book series and thought, "Hmmmm.... this sounds like it would make a perfect Disney television show." Hence, I think, the crack involved in the actual show.
And it is very, very pretty. Not only the characters, but the costuming, and the cinematography, and the scenery, and everything. Keeping the pretty seems to be the number one rule on the show.
I'm not against 'obtaining' shows, but when I've tried (I wanted to watch BSG this way last year) it always seemed to require downloading some new freeware package that I could never seem to get to work properly (I run a Mac and the most popular sites/freeware didn't have mac versions in the first place) and then took forever on my not super super fast internet and half of what I downloaded wouldn't play anyway.
So, I threw up my hands and figured I could wait until I was back in the US and had itunes/netflix at my disposal again.
search Legend of the Seeker on surfthechannel.com - no downloading, all megavideo streams that worked well enough for me when I was away on a shitty connection!

Except even that isn't as cracky as canon! LOL.
