no one else really seems to share what they have in common -- that rage over injustice that Patty says makes her choose her cases, or what David's "ghost" (really Ellen's subconscious) calls "a hatred of bullies." I'm so glad you mentioned that. That scene always struck me. And I like a show where a woman's rage is constructive and defining. These women get the bullies. They don't give up until they find the truth.
Ellen has leveled up. Now that Tom is gone and there is no intermediary, will Ellen drift back to Patty? And what draws Patty to Ellen? I agree they are both drawn but I wonder, does Patty really see herself in Ellen? Does she want Ellen to turn out like herself?
Such an interesting show which always makes me ask interesting questions. :-)
You know, I've been meaning to write an end-of-show post, but...I can't. It's like you said, I'm pretty overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of the plot and writing and characters. I can't really seem to form any coherent thoughts. Plus, it did have a bit of a "series" finale feel, didn't it? I don't want to accept that it's over!
That being said, this is some interesting meta. I ship Ellen/Patty as much as anyone, not in an "I want them to make out" way, but by being so utterly fascinated by their relationship and the way they are alternately drawn to and repulsed by each other (as you so beautifully put it). I know other fans have responded this way too, because I've never before been in a fandom where a femslash pairing was the OTP. There is something about them that just *transcends* romance; it seems like it was almost cheapen their dynamic to have them get together, so I'm glad TPTB left that thing between them unsaid. In any case, they are endlessly fascinating.
Hey! How wonderful to find a fellow member of the cult! I'm definitely up for discussions - in fact, I'm starved for them, as there really isn't much of a fandom.
I'll have to rely on iTunes or the internet to watch the next season, too, but I'm sure I'll find a way!

Also, when I entered "Why did Patty" in google it finished the sentence for me automatically - "why did Patty try to kill Ellen?" Haha.
