Like whoa, I've been MIA for eons here!! It's been a weird and busy year (although not a bad one), and as a result I found my fannish energy level very low for a while. Too many other mental distractions, I think! But I think my appetite for fandom is returning, so I hope to be here more often. (Or on DW? Is everyone moving there

I kinda like DW, I won't lie, but I cross-post everything so it's all good. I think maybe my new fandom of joy (Hawaii 5-0) won't be for you, but they are so silly they make me laugh.

Oh, tumblr. I like sharing GIFs, but the only way to "have a conversation" is to reblog someone else's post and add to it. Definitely not as conducive to discussion as LJ is. Great for lazy LJ-ers. Heh.
For some reason, I've been into silly Seeker-esque campy shows, like Lost Girl (biased here since it's canadian, and I definitely let it off the hook too easily), XIII and Warehouse 13.
lost girl is produced by Jay Firestone of LFN fame, so a there are a few similarities...sadly, the shitty continuity is one of them. :)
Damages of course, but I didn't find S4 as satisfying. Homeland's been very enjoyable, although the female lead is perhaps the only woman that's interesting. Also, women never talk to each other.

I have not heard of Lost Girl, but campy can be good...and campy Canadian!! I haven't seen Damages S4 all the way through - I got a few eps in and found myself (I can't believe I'm saying this) bored! I decided to come back to it later, but haven't got around to it yet.

It felt less about power dynamics and more about a case.
And about a somewhat cliched and predictable case, at that. S1 and S3 were so strong, in part, because the "case" part of the plot moved in such interesting directions. The Patty/Ellen power dynamic is the star of the show, for sure, but it's more distinctive when it's set against a genuinely dramatic backdrop. And with strong supporting characters! The show has had fabulous success casting comedic actors against type (Ted Danson, Martin Short, Lily Tomlin, Darrell Hammond), but John Goodman was a disappointment. Quite one-dimensional. Unless he got better farther in? (I gave up about halfway through the season.)

Did you stick out Spooks to the bitter end? Would love to hear your thoughts if so!

I'm watching a lot more series TV these days --- but, hmm. Not sure there is anything right up your fannish alley, so to speak. Like Ms. Artisan I'm all over the Hawaii-5-0 reboot, but it's all about the goofy boys and the goofy slash for me. Though - you liked Lost, right? There are some familiar faces from that show...
I have no idea if it will last --- but Once Upon a Time is driven by three women - the new sheriff, Emma, the evil queen/mayor and Snow White, who is an extremely tough lady and gentle school teacher, which shouldn't work but kinda does. There are also a bunch of supporting women, in fact, it's the most women of any new show I can think of. It's got all kind of bleeding over time lines and story lines - the creators of Lost are behind it.... I hope it has time to grow, because the most interesting journey is definitely the Evil Queen/Mayor's journey. She got her wish, cursed everyone.... and is finding living with what she wished for is more complicated than she thought it would be.

Just a fer'instance.... there are no - none - romantic triangles that pit any of the key three against each other. There was a wiff of one, but it ended abruptly and finally in a single ep - which was awesome!

The female lead is icy cold, Emily Van Camp from DH, and at times I just want to shake her. There are a couple of pretty boys but they don't interest me as much as the Nolan character does.
Other than that, it's been Castle and Nikita (just for Alberta) and Survivor and Amazing Race. And if anyone slashed Phil K, I don't know who they'd do it with...LOL

And yes, I've been watching Nikita, too, but to be perfectly honest (I can say this away from the board, I think!), the show itself (when Alberta isn't on it) bores me a little. It's not *bad*, but..meh. I neither love nor hate any of the characters, and the plots are just so paper-thin, there's nothing to really sustain my interest. Still...I love seeing Al, and it's kind of fun to compare the characters from LFN to their 2.0 versions!
