Cheers to Australia for getting rid of their conservative Prime Minister John Howard and hopefully moving forward in a new direction. In another year I hope the United States follow the same direction and elects someone who will also change the mess that President Bush has created in our country but the prospects dont look that encouraging so far ( Read more... )

I often wonder how the outcome of US elections would change, if it was compulsory for all citizens to vote.

If we don't vote over here, we get a massive fine - and I think we have a much fairer election as a result.

I dont know . . . knowing the American people we would probably still get the same results. I do wish though that more people voted because they dont realize the sacrifices many people made during our history so they would have the right to vote. Sometimes I do wish it was mandatory because it would force more people to look at the issues and what our government is doing or not doing.

I had no clue though that it was mandatory in Australia though.

Whoever's elected next November, there's really nowhere to go but up. ;) (Though that's not to say I want McCain or Romney anywhere near the Oval Office.)

True, they are probably the worst of the worst but I am actually afraid of Fred thompson more . . . he would probably be more likely to "stay the course".

I just wish there was a better Democrat running for president . . . so far I am not really impressed with any of them. :-(
