I feel dirty...

Jul 17, 2008 02:24

I just created a fanfiction.net account for the sole purpose of informing an author that no, Issac Asimov did not write 2001: A Space Odyssey - that would be Arthur C. Clarke ( Read more... )

Oy. Reminds of the idiot who recently stated that their favorite book was To Kill A Mockingbird...by Edgar Allan Poe.

Does this post in fact hint that there is 2001 fanfiction?

NO!

That's like saying that JM Barrie wrote "Trainspotting".

LOL. That...would be an interesting read. Kinda like Call of the Wild by H.P. Lovecraft, right?

I wouldn't be surprised if there were. Certainly wouldn't be the strangest fandom I've seen, but no, this was SGA.

Since last night, my comment has been removed by the author and the story edited. 2001 has been changed to I, Robot, the person about to be assaulted switched from female to male, but the OOC-ness still remains. Oh, well, can't have everything, I guess.

I...wow. I am sort of intrigued as to what might be the link between all of those changes.

*head desk* *face palm*

I think facts that are so egregiously wrong should be corrected, so I'd say you were perfectly justified in creating an account for that purpose.

But really, how can you mix the two up? Yes, both are Grand Masters of Science fiction, but their writing is so different. There's just NO WAY Asimov would have written anything like 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequels.

* especially if you're going to put "I really love Isaac Asimov... "

I just... I couldn't walk away from that, not and still be able to call myself a science fiction fan. Wrong, wrong, so very, very wrong.

My comment has been deleted by the author. The story, however, has been updated. 2001 has been changed to I, Robot. A female character has been changed to male. The OOC-ness of the main characters, however, remains.

This is why they need to treat scifi as a literary genre. Then maybe it'll be mentioned in school. *nods*

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.
