Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I hope she's feeling better very soon.
Regarding the meals thing, is there any way she could be signed up for Meals on Wheels or a similar program? It would have to be better than yogurt and junk food.
That's something we're going to explore when we go up. The major problem is that we generally don't get up there on weekdays, and most of these places are closed on weekends.
Another stumbling block is that her county doesn't appear to have an Office of the Aging like our county does, so there apparently isn't a central clearinghouse for senior services, necessitating calls to multiple agencies and working with multiple caseworkers.
I know the feeling. My family does the same thing.
I think she will probably be fine with the pacemaker. My father had one put in a few months ago. He stayed overnight and they sent him home the next day. They made a one inch incision and did everything orthoscopically. He did have to go back and have them re-attach the backup wire to his heart as it had somehow "fallen out".
Wow that is horrible. I also tend to lie to my parents or I at least don't tell them how bad things are. Hell even when I lived with them I lied to them.
I'm surprised her county doesn't have an Office of Aging - I'm in Fulton County which is the smallest county in PA and we one. You could check with Social Services at the hospital - they may have some suggestions. Hugzzz.....
Very good advice. It was the first thing out of my mouth when we were talking with his aunt. They need to be made aware of some of the services she might need.

If I go on Google and look up "Blair County Office Aging" I get referred to a private non-profit company, Blair Senior Services.
