Did the Avengers Friday night...

It was awesome. Really, really enjoyable. I wouldn't mind going to see it again. :D

It had that Whedon special brand of smart, savvy sarcasm tempered with obvious character affection that he does SO WELL (miss Buffy, yes I do *sniff*). I wont give away spoilers or anything but I will say this, I went in expecting to ( Read more... )

Joss Whedon continues to be a conundrum for me. On one hand, I hated Buffy, and all the permutations of that formula that were spawned in the wake of it. On the other hand, I often find myself really enjoying his theatrical screenplays (Oh, why, Alien: Resurrection? Why oh why didn't you just do it his way? You could have been so *good*, but instead I must hold my head in shame when I tell others that I still like you for who you really are...) and The Avengers kicked so much ass I can't even begin.

The Hulk stole the show like some kind of show stealing thing. A lot have people have said this, but yeah, they actually got him right this time. Jesus, only three movies. But the most impressive things to me were :

a) the CG was done very, very well, and that's one of those things I think I go into a movie with a *way* too critical eye for, especially dealing with blockbusters. I know Hollywood has a hard on for shortcuts and computer generated effects, and the big summer hits are always going to be chock full of them, but I can ( ... )

LOL, well, it really was no secret that for the most part, Buffy notwithstanding, are tastes are similar. In another life darling, I think we were twins... the 'finishes each others sentences' type of twins *nods*.

Can't agree with you enough on both points, i.e. the CGI and on Hawkeye and Black Widow. In fact, the Black Widow scenes were easily among my favorite (though its hard to chose, that movie is pretty much comprised of one great scene right after another).

As for the Hulk... as soon as I have a free minute I will be scouring the internet for some Tony/Bruce slash. Know of any off hand you can rec me?

Love Buffy, love Joss, and am very much looking forward to Avengers, which I am too busy to see until a week from Wednesday. But yay that it's so damn good - every!single!person I know who has seen it loves it.

Hooters! LOL, what an image.

I used to go to the Ren Faires; glad they're still so much fun.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Icon love! I must admit, Buffy/Spike is one of my favorite het pairings of all-time (though, not going to lie, every once in awhile, when the mood hit me, I'd go trawling for some Buffy/Faith, Angel/Spike or Spike/Xander fic ;)).

Also, when you go to see the Avengers, stay to the end of the credits if you can. There's a priceless little scene tacked on the end there. A true Jossian type moment.

Thanks for the congrats! *hugs*

How awesome that you did Ren Faires for so long! If you're ever motivated to do one again, let me know. I might tag along for the ride. I really enjoyed this past one.

If you don't mind my asking, which part of Northern Cali do you live in? The reason I ask is because I lived in Placerville for a bit while I was growing up. I'm curious if you're close to my old hometown (Placerville used to get movies late, too, which is why I'm making that correlation).

Pinto de Mayo was awesome! I'm still grinning over that.

*hangs head*

I still haven't gotten to see The Avengers yet, but I'm a massive Joss fan. I still watching Buffy, Angel and Firefly when I need a pick-me-up. How wonderful that his first honking big feature film looks set to smash the records as having the biggest opening ever!

When I saw the Pinto sightings and tweets the other night I immediately broke into my happy dance (patent pending). It really made my day, and I don't know why other than the fact that it makes me happy to see two guys that are recreating a historic pairing are friends into the bargain.

Well done on the shrinking! That'll be good for you when you sprint out to the mail box every day. Again with the glee ...

How did I just know that you were also a Joss fan. We seem to have remarkably similar taste in things! OMG you will just love the Avengers when you see it. In typical Joss fashion the movie is just as much a comedy as it is an action film. Some of the lines in that film are to die for, so not kidding on that. I've got to admit, I've been trying to mimic Joss's style of writing ever since Buffy was on the air, lol.

It makes me happy that that cast (and particularly those two) are close, too.

Thanks for the congrats, darling! *hugs*

... and yup, I've been sprinting to the mailbox everyday as promised! *is eager* :D

I want to go see The Avengers again too! I've never been a comics girl actually, but The Avengers was fantastic - I saw it more than a week ago and I keep thinking about my favourite scenes and my favourite characters (ALL OF THEM :D) and now I am tempted to check out some of the comics and I really really want to rewatch the film!

Lol Hooters. I had no idea why everyone found that so amusing until Veri explained it to me last night. Clueless Scandinavian is clueless :)

It would be so awesome to have an Avengers viewing party! We must do it when it comes out on DVD. We must.

I agree, every single one of those characters just shown so brightly. They were *all* awesome.

Heh, now I'm going to want to take you all to a Hooters when you're here in July, lol, just so you can have the practical experience to go along with Veri's description. ;)

YES. YES. YES TO AN AVENGERS VIEWING PARTY!
I would LOVE that!

(I went to see it again tonight. In 2D this time, just to see if there was a difference, you know :P)

Hahahahaa I have to admit Hooters do not sound like the kind of place I would usually frequent but I am very curious to see what it is actually like. EEEEEEE I'LL BE IN CALIFORNIA IN JUST A LITTLE OVER TWO MONTHS FROM NOW :DDD
