Jim's eyes betrayed him by shifting their focus on Spock's lips on the word 'pleasure'. By time he caught himself and grasped for the earlier staring contest, Spock was quirking an eyebrow at him.

I absolutely adore you. You know that, right?

Excellent! I love this!

“Captain,” Spock said carefully, and to Jim it seemed as if he was weighing the appropriateness of the title, “forgive me if I gave the impression that I do not have confidence in your ability to command.”

Jim lifted an eyebrow, still not convinced of Spock’s own convictions and dammit when did that eyebrow thing become contagious?

But, having been thrust into this new position and hardly convinced himself he could handle it, Jim kept any kind of snarky retort to himself, letting Spock continue.

And then Spock surprised Jim by mentioning that certain someone he had specifically labeled “off limits.”

Jim listened for what Spock wasn't saying, then leaned over the table and grinned at him. "And it was infuriating as hell."

Love it, so much. It showing how much they already understand each other. Completely awesome!

Driven to further this growing sense of camaraderie, Jim shook his head.

"I've got to hand it to you, I'm not sure how I would react to meeting another version of me," he admitted, shivering at the thought of it. Two Jim Kirk's in one universe? His mother (and Bones... and Pike, now that he thought of it) would likely go into cardiac arrest. "A part of me would be curious. Who wouldn't? I'd have a list of questions a mile long. But another part of me would be a little... uh, disturbed, I guess. I probably wouldn't be able to prevent myself from comparing the two of us. And I'm not sure I'd be able to resist the temptation to ask about the future. And I'm definitely sure I don't want to tempt fate that way ( ... )

*grins* I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I'm having a blast, too. It is definitely fun. It's been years since I've participated in a round-robin.
