Don't let Xander be a sad little kidcartoonmayhemJuly 10 2013, 01:45:42 UTC
I was a year younger than Xander when my brother died and 4 months later my mom's dad died. It devastated my mom and led to really really bad emotional problems and for a few years a total inability to parent.. Now that she's in her 80's she's finally content. It took her 45 years to get there, though.
But my childhood was very sad. Don't let this happen to Xander.
My advice is take down that Facebook dedicated to your mother. Really. I'm not trying to be mean. There is too much temptation to dwell on the sadness with that page up. Xander is too young to deal with such heavy emotions and you don't want to put your son in the situation I was in where you're a little kid having to comfort your parent because they've lost it.
You need to encourage him to move on. Get him interested in other things. Distract him. Take him places, sports, anything. The grief will work itself out but dwelling in it won't do anything but prolong the grief.

Dude, if you don't really wanna do them, don't do them. It's your life -- build it the way you want. (Or at least try!)
