Chapter 6
Jayma pulled her car in behind Matt’s, her heart racing as she slipped the gear into park. She shouldn’t be this nervous; but as much as she tried to hide this meeting behind the idea of just dinner, she knew it was more. Matt had pulled her into a dark corner during a break from shooting.
“What would you like for dinner?” He had asked it so innocently, as he brushed his palm along the tightly fitting pencil skirt she was wearing.
“Dinner?” She hadn’t been expecting anything other than sex; hot, passionate, vigorous, sweaty, satisfying sex.
“Yes, dinner; I thought I could cook us a little something to-…” He quieted as someone walked past them, careful not to give away their position.”…tonight. You are still coming over aren’t you?”
“Matt, you don’t have to cook for me.” She couldn’t read his face, the darkness of their hideaway concealing him almost completely. And she really needed to see his face right now. Dinner wasn’t what she was expecting. But, it made the situation easier for her conscious to deal with. ‘Dinner. Maybe it would be only dinner…’
“I want to. You won’t be disappointed. I’m a really good cook.” And with a kiss to her cheek he was gone.
She watched Matt exit his car and go around to the trunk to gather all the groceries he had picked up on their way to his place. He easily lifted the two bags in his arms and closed the truck; turning in her direction he was clearly wondering why she hadn’t joined him yet.
Jayma took a deep breath and unbuckled her seatbelt. She opened the door tentatively and walked to him, confusion read in every footstep.
“What’s wrong?” He tried his best to keep the worry out of his voice, but everything inside of him was so sacred that she would turn around and leave. They were so close now. And he wanted her so much. He needed her so much.
She squinted against the sun’s rays as she looked into his eyes, but finding them too inviting, she quickly diverted them to the ground. The ground couldn’t look at her the way he did, making her heart skip and insides quiver. “Matt….I….I’m not sure….” And just before she uttered those finalizing words of, ‘I can do this.’ she looked at him and her resolve melted away. She stood, looking into his eyes, knowing he was begging her to stay; and she wanted to stay, she desperately wanted to stay. “…..I’m not sure I’m going to enjoy this meal.” She smiled, relieved to have made a decision. “Are you sure you can cook. Who taught you?”
“I’m sure.” And he leaned in giving her a sweet lingering kiss on her lips.
Matt was busy rushing about the kitchen. He had insisted on cooking alone; setting Jayma down at the bar with a glass of wine so she could watch and keep him company while he prepared their meal. She watched him; his brow furring in concentration, his body moving so effortlessly from counter to stove back to counter then to the fridge, he nearly danced across the floor; the sweat on his forehead as he stood over the steaming pot, the heat making his skin glisten in the most delicious way, he smiled as he would glance up at her whenever she corrected him on his cooking techniques, and that smirk; It all accumulated and forced her from her perch, forced her to walk up behind him as he placed a pan in the oven; she snaked her arms around his waist, relishing in the feel of him, so close. She felt the muscles in his back flex and he moved in her grasp, coming face to face.
“Hi.” He encased her in his strong arms, looking down into her expressive eyes.
She smiled brightly. “Hi.”
“Didn’t we talk about this? You’re supposed to be sitting, relaxing.” His actions betrayed him as his mouth found her neck.
Fireworks.
“Mmmm…” Jayma closed her eyes to the wonderful sensations his lips could evoke. “You were just too tempting.”
“Yeah?” His voice was husky; her desire for him filling him with pride. He gripped her thigh lifting it to his hip, her other leg following suit until she was in his arms fully.
The countertop proved to be the perfect height for their passionate make out session. Jayma’s dress was pushed up revealing her toned thighs as they gripped Matt’s hips roughly, and his white shirt was unbuttoned down to his naval allowing Jayma’s hands complete access to his chest. Jayma kissed a path along his jaw to his ear where she hotly whispered, “I think I would like some dessert before dinner tonight.” And his hand gripped her thigh so tightly she was sure it would leave a mark. She didn’t care.
Her hands dropped to his belt where she began to unbuckle it, she pulled it free from the loops and dropped it to the floor, the clasp making a clinking against the tile. Matt’s mouth was working magic as he sucked and bit at her nipple through the thin fabric of her dress; she groaned loudly as she felt for the button to his pants.
A strange sound buzzed. Matt’s actions halted immediately. “What’s that?” She looked for the source.
He pulled back suddenly. “Someone is at the gate. Ignore it.” Just as suddenly as he had pulled away, he was back, his mouth returned to where it had just been, teasing her nipple through fabric.
Jayma pushed him backward and jumped down off the counter. “What? Who?” She was frantically straightening her hair and skirt.
Matt walked to the security screen in the entrance while buttoning his shirt. Renee. Shit. “Um; it’s Renee.” He spoke loudly enough for her to hear him.
“Oh God.” Her hand flew to her mouth as she walked in behind him. “Shit. Matt, I shouldn’t be here.”
He walked to her, hugging her tightly; he didn’t want her to feel like she’d done anything wrong. “No, you should be here. I don’t know why she’s here. She shouldn’t be here.”
The buzzer sounded again. He sighed.
“You should let her in Matt.” Jayma didn’t meet his eyes as she walked back into the kitchen.
He walked in, defeated, after opening the gate for his girlfriend. Jayma took her previous position at the bar, looking down to make sure all of her clothing was straight she saw the darkened area on the material covering her breast; soaked by Matt’s mouth. And she quickly covered the area with her arm awkwardly. They were silent.
Minutes later Renee walked into the front door. “Matthew?”
“In here.” He called out to her from the Kitchen.
“Who’s car-…Oh. Jayma, hi.” She walked into the room; her long dark hair, perfectly tanned skin, bright smile, long legs, immediately making Jayma feel insecure.
She plastered on a fake smile. “Hi Renee. How are you?”
“Really well! How are you?” She walked past Matt, placing a kiss on his cheek.
“I’m good.” Jayma hoped that her face didn’t give away how uncomfortable she was feeling. She just wanted to crawl into a hole right now.
“I invited Jayma over for dinner.” Matt offered the unasked for explanation.
“I see that.” Renee shot him a passive look.
“What are you doing here?” He hoped it didn’t come off rude, but his frustration at her presence was hard to control.
“Don’t you know what today is?” She looked expectant; he looked dumbfounded; and she sighed. “It’s our One Year Anniversary today. I can’t believe you forgot. I came over to surprise you.” She pouted her lip.
Jayma was sure her heart stopped. She needed to get out of there. “Oh gosh, I had no idea! I should leave you two!” She made quick work of gathering her purse and belongings.
He wanted to stop her, ask her to stay; but she wouldn’t, and he wouldn’t put her through that. So, he just watched her as she started to leave, his gaze never leaving her; his eyes so apologetic.
Renee made no move to extend an invite as she went to the oven opening it to see what was for dinner, and Matt followed Jayma into the entry. He caught up to her just as she reached for the door handle.
“I am so sorry; I didn’t know she was coming.” He placed a comforting hand on the base of her back.
“You have nothing to be sorry for Matt.” She didn’t turn around, she was embarrassed. She never should have come. “Enjoy your evening.” And she walked out.
Xx
Jayma walked into her home, Adam was away for the weekend, so she had the place to herself. She went straight to the freezer, finding exactly what she needed in seconds. She lifted the lid to the ice cream container and dipped her spoon in. Plopping on the couch she started scanning through the channels.
She was curled up in a blanket, empty ice cream container sitting nearby, as she dozed off; the TV screen illuminating and darkening the room as the old 50s movie played. Her phone vibrated waking her from her semi consciousness; a text.
‘Jay. I’m so sorry. Really. Can I see you this weekend?’
‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.’
She didn’t sit the phone down; she knew he would respond immediately. She was right.
‘I want to see you.’ ‘Please!?’
‘Matt I don’t think so….’
She didn’t want to admit it to herself but she was so jealous, so incredibly jealous of Renee. And she shouldn’t be. She had no right to be. Matt wasn’t hers by any means, and she belonged to someone else.
Her phone started to ring in her hands. She fumbled with the instinct to hit ‘ignore’, but against her better judgment she accepted the call.
“Matt, I can’t.” She knew that by the time this call ended he would have changed her mind. And she hated that she knew she would give in to him; but she wanted to.
“I’m falling in love with you Jayma. Please meet with me. I need to see you.” His voice was desperate
They were silent for a long time.
“I was really jealous today, and I shouldn’t have been.” It was a confession that matched his own; maybe not as straight forward, but it held the same weight.
“Meet me.” His voice had softened.
“Come here? Tomorrow?” She couldn’t say no to him; not when she wanted it just as much.
“I meant it, Jay. I love you.” She could hear the sincerity in his voice; it scared her and brought a smile to her face instantaneously. Before she could reply he spoke again, ending the call. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
