Sociological Study: Valley Cities

For those of you who don't live here in AZ, Mesa is quite a bit more run down than the surrounding valley cities. That said, I find it interesting how the Mesa community section of the paper contrasts with those of, say, Gilbert and Chandler. Not just today, but other times as well. Well, in Mesa's defense - it's quite a bit larger than either of those cities. And it does have some slum areas for sure (as does Chandler, just not as many). But it also has some very nice areas, and some great new developments.

As I think of it - the WEST Valley would be a great place to look at this kind of breakdown. You've got Sun City and Surprise, Litchfield Park and Goodyear. But then you've also got Tolleson (which, in its defense, is improving), Avondale, Maryvale, and El Mirage. Not to mention particularly icky parts of Glendale.

True. I'm just not familiar enough with the West Valley to make any hypotheses or draw any conclusions.

I worked there. In Avondale. We were discouraged (strongly) from being alone in our building after dark.
