I'm a Believer now

This cd of unreleased cover songs that came with the June/July issue of The Believer is hands down the *best* cd I've ever gotten with a magazine. (So far, the articles inside are pretty tasty as well.) I recommend that everyone who likes music go out and buy this magazine directly. Honestly, I'm on track 11 of 17, and so far I've yet to come ( Read more... )

It's published by McSweeney's Publishing LLC, our of San Francisco. But it's printed in Canada, as is currently very indie to do, haha. They've got a website of www.believermag.com, but I haven't been there yet.

where did you buy it? i'll check out borders and maybe a couple indie record stores. they tend to carry some pretty obscure magazines.

i stopped by a hot topic a couple months ago (i know, i know! it was the only place i could find that had red eyeshadow) and saw a nirvana onesie. it was really adorable. they also had one that had a picture of a storm trooper and the words "storm pooper" across the front. :)

OMG, 'Storm Pooper' is more than sufficiently pop-culture silly for them. Thanks for the tip - ima check that out!

I bought The Believer at a local "rich hippie" grocery store here called New Seasons. This mag is quite eclectic (it has an interview with Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), a nostalgic look back at a little known "banana hoax" from 1967 when people thought you could get high by smoking banana peels, an article about the recent collectibility of literary archives and ephemera (a letter from Lewis Carroll addressed to Alice Liddell (his inspiration for 'Alice In Wonderland') went for over $128,000!?!)... so many things). It's indie-centric, but not holier-than-thou indie. Very highly recommended.
